What is a Healthy Diet? Let's Examine! |
|
Our bodies are super complex and along with that come many different forms and ideas of what we should eat, how we should exercise, which vitamins and supplements we should take and the list goes on. So... just what is a healthy diet?
One thing we know for sure is that we must place the proper fuel into our bodies for it to perform and function properly. We also must eliminate the "Bad Fuel" that is creating the issue in the first place. This is what I like to term as substitution. By substituting healthy for the unhealthy, we can experience a vibrant lifestyle and still enjoy great tasting meals, or snacks, that we look forward to every day. ![]() So what is the proper fuel for our bodies?
Let’s go back to the creation – the garden - in Genesis 1:29. And God said, “Behold, I have given you every plant yielding seed that is on the face of all the earth, and every tree with seed in its fruit. You shall have them for food”. You can radically change your weight, how you feel, and overcome most all physical problems by embracing a raw whole plant food diet as 85% of your daily food intake - It's not as bad as it sounds - there are many great tasting recipes available that will allow you to replace almost all of the things you have enjoyed in the past. The remaining 15% of your daily diet should be the cooked portion of vegetables, grains, beans, whole grain rice, etc. In a nutshell:

Just a healthy diet of food though, does not insure a healthy body! You may have the perfect diet and yet cannot lose weight or overcome an illness because other negative lifestyle factors are producing an acidic condition in our bodies. For total physical health our lifestyle must include living plant based foods, natural high quality supplements, stress management, exercise, plenty of pure water, sunshine, and rest. Rest – Sleep is critical for our overall health. Lab rats died in two to three weeks when denied the chance to rest. Sleep deprivation can change several hormones that are important for good health. Lack of sleep can add to our stress levels and hinder our decision making. Stress – We all experience stress but when it becomes too extreme we may experience a range of health issues such as depression, mental health struggles, heart disease, and poor gut health. Acidic foods such as animal or dairy based foods can tax the body as it struggles to maintain an alkaline state creating anxiety, weight gain, and other health related issues. Spiritual – A spiritual walk with the Lord is key to reducing stress and the overall health of our physical bodies. Find a quiet time every day to pray and meditate on those issues that are creating stress or anxiety in your life. It has been reported that as much as 90% of doctor visits have a stress related symptom. Sunshine - Too many of us are avoiding the sun like the plague! Sunshine plays an important role in our overall health and avoiding it is culprit for many illnesses. See more on sunshine... When the suns UV rays contact our skin the cholesterol is converted into a ProVitamin D which is converted into a vitamin D metabolite. This is stored and used by the body as needed. Eating a poor diet of animal fats along with low antioxidant levels can have damaging effects to the skin that leads to skin cancer. Also overexposure causing burning of the skin will cause damage and premature aging. Researchers have found that over 80% of all people have less than optimal blood levels of vitamin D. ![]() Change is difficult
Okay so most of us know and would agree that healthy food should be used to nourish and sustain our bodies but... the addicting forces of the "bad" food can cause us to eat in a way that is detrimental to our health. Many people ask me, how do I go about getting started with a healthy diet and then keep things rolling in a positive direction. See for yourself here I would probably be correct in saying that diet change would be difficult for you especially when it comes to food. Food is part of our life tradition, it is a big part of social events and entertainment. Another obstacle to change is “addiction”! - Yes we can become addicted to certain foods because of the ingredients that are added. Some medical research has shown that sugar is eight times as addictive as cocaine. I must say that any type of diet that promotes health and vitality will take effort along with some determination. The diet that promotes fatigue and sickness is the path that most people are on. This diet is the SAD diet, Standard American Diet. The Hallelujah Diet is really a common sense approach to providing our bodies with the proper nutrition so that it will seek its ideal weight and allow our immune system to function as God intended.
